Gina's Design Corner

Everything about the location and neighborhood the Schmidt Family lived in was ideal...except their house itself. Instead of moving, they decided to redesign their home to match their style. We took away walls to open up the entry and kitchen and added color and texture to mimic the homeowner's vibrancy.

Before: The original entry closet looked like an afterthought. We removed the closet completely to open up the space.

Before: Closet from the kitchen side.

After: Open from the front door, back to the kitchen.

Before: Kitchen. Going for more space, we deleted the wall between the kitchen and informal dining area.

After: Removing the wall allowed us to add upper cabinets and more countertop space to create a full breakfast bar. We created an entirely different feel by changing the countertops, backsplash, lighting and flooring. Cabinets remained the same.

Before: The kitchen desk was nonfunctional.

After: So we turned it into a bar area!
